Gandel Philanthropy and The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), which is contributing $650,000 in addition to the government’s investment of $36.6m, hosted the launch of the programme recently.
The initiative is set to benefit students throughout the state, according to Martin Foley, Minister for creative Industries, who added:
“The Gandel family are great supporters and champions of education, creativity, and young people. This generous, forward-thinking gift will benefit hundreds of thousands of young Victorians. Not only will this partnership support education in Melbourne, it will extend ACMI’s reach into regional areas, ensuring more students get a world-class education regardless of their location.”
He said emerging technology will be a major focus of the school-based programmes and digital learning labs. The promotion of screen and media literacy plus the latest in cutting-edge technology will be a feature of the Federation Square site of ACMI’s workshops and digital labs.
Creative industry experts will staff the labs that are expected to give access to resources and gilt-edged learning environments, not normally accessible in the classroom, to teachers and students. Printing services often provide materials such as Brochures and workbooks to educational institutes.
