For those who love everything about Scotland, the Geelong Highland Gathering will be coming to town this month.
Pipes and drums will be skirling, Highland Dancers will be whirling, and Celtic music will be swirling with violins, fiddles, and pipes. Clans will be represented with their own tents and stalls, and a Clans March will take place following the official opening. Scottish food and drink will be available for purchase, while children’s entertainment will include an animal nursery and a jumping castle.
Presented and supported by the City of Greater Geelong, the traditional owners of the country around Geelong, the Wathaurong people, will be represented at the Official Opening with a ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony.
The first of these Gatherings was held on New Year’s Day 1858, while the current version of the event began in 1958, making this its 60th anniversary. This year, the Victorian Pipe Band Championships will be held as part of the attractions.
The Highland Gathering will come to a close with a mass performance by pipe bands. These kinds of events usually use banner printing, and Promotional Products may be offered at the clan stalls, for example.
Visitors of all ages are invited to join the Geelong Highland Gathering on Sunday, March 19 from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Corio Little Athletics Sportsground at Goldsworthy Reserve on Goldsworthy Road, Corio.
