Bernadette Uzelac, the serving head of the Chamber of Commerce in Geelong, will be the chair at the Victoria Small Business Ministerial Council (VSBMC) going forward. This appointment has been interpreted as an endorsement for business leadership within Geelong by the government of Victoria. Uzelac may now need new Business Cards as a result of her progress.
Philip Dalidakas, a minister with responsibility for small business, told the Geelong Advertiser:
“This is something that has been in the works for a little bit of time ... very deliberate identification of the work the Chamber of Commerce has done in Geelong, and Bernadette’s work in particular.”
Dalidakas explained why Uzelac has been selected for the challenges ahead. In particular, he paid a fulsome tribute to the amount and quality of the experience she has acquired. In addition, he suggested that the optimism he detected in Geelong is impressive and promising.
Uzelac has enthused about what she may be able to deliver for Geelong. She explained that it will be worthwhile for the city to have more of a say in discussions with the politicians of Victoria. Further, she underlined that she appreciates what small enterprises add to the economy of the region. She made a commitment to assist small businesses in the future.
