With what are regarded some of Melbourne's most exciting visual artists on display from June to October this year, art and history lovers will have an excuse to visit the Geelong Art Gallery.
'Holding Form', the works of printmaker, painter and designer Barbara Brash, will be exhibited at the gallery from Saturday, 25th June to Sunday, 9th October. One of Australia's preeminent artists of the mid-century printmaking revival, Brash is said to have pushed the creative boundaries of the printed media through the exploration of colour and texture using woodcut, linocut, lithograph and screen-Print multi-media.
In addition, from Saturday, 16th July to Sunday, 16th October, the National Gallery Touring exhibition will present 'Spowers & Syme', which will explore the changing face of 1930s and 1940s Australia through the innovative works of contemporary Melbourne artists Ethel Spowers and Eveline Syme. After studying in Paris and in London under printmaker Claude Flight, Syme and Spowers returned to Melbourne and dominated their genre in the post-war art scene. Their nouveau approach to linocut and woodcut techniques will be visually represented through drawings and prints.
Both exhibitions will be on display for a limited time only. Whilst not everyone can take home an original lithograph print, the Geelong Art Gallery Store sells a variety of printed Promotional Products and memorabilia for attendees to purchase.
