Mayor Bruce Harwood said the event is expected to attract almost 3,000 teachers to the region adding:
“The programme has been designed to make the most of our beautiful bay and beaches, with beach netball and volleyball, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and even a bomb diving contest at Eastern Beach as part of the schedule.”
Established in 1996, the multi-sport event is held annually and will see teachers competing in 39 fixtures ranging from Archery and Dragon Boating, to AFL 9s, netball and beach volleyball.
The events will be held at prime locations throughout the Bellarine and Geelong region including its beaches and along the waterfront. Print shops are often used for events such as this to provide a range of materials, from promotional Posters to Banners and signage.
Tourism and Events Chairman Ron Nelson described the Games as ‘a famously social occasion’ which will give the local economy a boost.
He predicts great activity from the 3,000-strong participants at local pubs, bars and restaurants at the end of each day’s events as well as increased visits to local tourist attractions such as the ghost tour at the Old Geelong Gaol and behind-the-scenes look at Kardinia Park.
