Geelong, Victoria, will showcase some of the country’s most applauded acts when it stages the Motor City Music Festival next year.
Organisers have announced a lineup of music greats ranging from tributes to INXS, Credence and Springsteen to blues act Pugsley Buzzard.
The action will be spread over five stages and involve more than 40 artists, including country music’s James Blundell, evergreen performers Chris Wilson, Geoff Achison, and Jimi Hocking, and acts like the Eurogliders and Joe Camilleri’s Black Sorrows.
The music festival, which has been dubbed ‘Geetroit Rocks’, has won the support of Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons, who said the previous festival was “raved about”, as the city became a major entertainment venue suited to all ages for three big days of performances, covering everything from soul music, blues, country, live rock to a host of kids’ activities.
The inaugural festival featured tribute bands to KISS, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Doors, Janis Joplin, and other top blues and rock performers. Flyer and poster printing helped spread the word to locals, who turned out in force.
In addition to non-stop music, the next festival will feature a family day on the Sunday. Patrons will also enjoy a stage dedicated to country music and performances by James Reyne’s son JR Reyne, homegrown talents The Glitter Gang, Taxiride’s Jason Singh.
It all takes place over the weekend of March 6 – 8, 2004.
