The National Celtic Festival is returning to Portarlington for its 13th successive year.
Internationally recognised, it is Australia's largest and most diverse Celtic festival, with over 30 performers appearing over four days. Entertainment will include music, dancing, pipers and drummers, poetry, market stalls and workshops, featuring both traditional and contemporary artists.
Every year, the festival draws a larger crowd and Festival Director Una McAlinden said that it is continuing to flourish and grow, and that the event is “all about the people”.
Only a 90-minute drive from Melbourne, this year the festival will be held over the winter long weekend. Staring talent from both Australia and overseas, performers will include 2006 Australian Idol audience favourite Damien Leith and Irish-born singer Bernadette Morris. While this is Morris' first visit to Australia, she already has performances in Germany and American under her belt. Her debut album ‘All the Ways You Wander’ has been praised as 'one of the best of this year' by legendary Irish singer-songwriter Paul Brady.
The festival has also been receiving international coverage, with an interview with Morris appearing in the Irish Echo. Further publicity is likely to include the likes of Signs, Calendars and promotional Pens from the associated organisers Geelong Performing Arts Centre.
