World music coming to Kingston for national holiday

Braeside residents can enjoy some fun in the sun on Australia Day, with the annual Globe to Globe Festival taking place in nearby Clayton South.

The festival is part of the City of Kingston’s Australia Day celebrations, which also include a breakfast at which the city’s annual citizen of the year, young citizen and community groups of the year are announced.

The Globe to Globe event celebrates the diverse communities that make up the City of Kingston with performances from local dance and music groups, with last year’s event including performances showcasing New Zealand, Chinese and Greek cultures.

There will also children’s entertainment and a range of stalls selling food from many different countries. Food stall holders could use flyer printing or poster printing to showcase their Menus for the event and to explain a little about the background to the dishes.

The main stage will feature contemporary professional world music artists, while the second stage will highlight the area’s different community groups. A third area will offer demonstrations and workshops where festival-goers can try their hand at dancing, music or crafts.

The festival will be closed by a firework show organised by the City of Kingston.

The Globe to Globe Festival will be held on Tuesday, January 26, at Namatjira Park. The event runs from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
