Garage sale frenzy set for Victoria

A number of Victoria residents are gearing up for one of Australia's biggest community events - the Garage Sale Trail.

The Trail was originally held in Bondi Beach in 2010 as a way of promoting sustainability and bringing communities together; it became a nationwide event the following year. It is estimated that over the past two years, more than one million items which may otherwise have been thrown away have been resold as part of the event.

More than 2,000 sales are expected to happen around Victoria with around 75,000 people taking part this year, buying, selling or simply browsing.

Whether it is selling unwanted items to make some extra money, or hunting for bargains among the stalls, the event will no doubt have something for everyone, including Books, toys and even furniture.

It is also a great way for charities or community groups to raise some extra funds. Braeside residents will find a number of sales taking place nearby, including a special designer fashion event in Oakleigh South.

Anyone planning on holding a sale can register on the Garage Sale Trail website, listing location details and some of the top items on offer. The first 5,000 people to register will receive a special pack to help them promote their event. Poster printing and flyer printing are also great ways to advertise a sale locally.

The Garage Sale Trail takes place across the country on Saturday October 26. Individual sales times vary. For more information or to register, visit the Garage Sale Trail website.
