Council seeks feedback on SRL draft plan

The City of Kingston has come up with a plan to capitalise on the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL), which is proposed for the area, and it has put out a call to residents in Braeside and throughout the city for feedback.

The draft plans highlight opportunities for increased open green space, cycling and pedestrian links and improved links to public transport, as well as a design that is climate responsive and focused on the train stabling yard proposed for Heatherton and the precinct containing the new train station adjacent to Southland.

Mayor of Kingston Steve Staikos commented that design experts and community input helped to develop the plan, which is based on the SRL, and how it will impact the city and transform travel for many local commuters in the future. He added:

“We want to create a constructive vision for how the project could be delivered while also securing local benefits for our community.”

The visionary plan by the council is on show and available for community feedback in an effort to assist in guiding the submission by the council to the hearings early in 2022 about the environmental effects in relation to the SRL project.

The council believes community feedback on its ideas and draft designs is a priority in working to attain positive outcomes for everyone involved.

Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to make community members aware of opportunities to have a say on council plans and proposals.

Feedback is being welcomed on the draft plan until 14 December.
