Year of the Sheep to be celebrated in Box Hill

Box Hill South residents can ring in the Chinese New Year this month with a colourful parade.

To mark the event, the Asian Business Association of Whitehorse is once again organising its annual 12-hour festival.

As one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in Melbourne, the event’s highlights include the Parade of the Choi Sun as well as traditional lion and dragon dancers.

Festival-goers can sample Asian cuisine from the many food stalls, pick a souvenir of the New Year, which in 2015 is the Year of the Sheep, and see the giant Buddha statue.

There will also be martial arts demonstrations, singing and dancing, and amusement rides, as well as a firecracker show.

The colourful celebrations should create some great photo opportunities for keen snappers, who could ask a local printing company to create high-resolution Copies of some of the images for display in an album or on the wall.

More than 80,000 people are expected to attend, and visitors from nearby areas such as Box Hill South are encouraged to walk, cycle or take public transport to the event, as parking is limited and some roads are closed.

The event runs from 1pm on Saturday, February 14th to 1am on Sunday, February 15th around Box Hill Mall and along Whitehorse Road.
