The initiative will see the Investment and Economic Development Unit of Council host two workshops during May and June. Whitehorse Mayor Bill Bennett said industry experts will focus on providing easy-to-implement practical advice to business owners in the areas of record keeping and starting a business, adding:
“These workshops are part of Council’s annual program of support offered to small businesses across Whitehorse. Council is committed to nurturing the area’s small businesses and providing the tools for them to confront challenges and embrace opportunities for growth and improvement.”
While also offering participants an opportunity to network and exchange Business Cards with each other, the workshops will give expert guidance, tools and start-up tips.
The first event is ‘Starting Your Business’ and will cost attendees $30. It will be held on May 21 from 9:30am to 1pm in the Whitehorse Civic Centre’s Willis Room.
Then, on June 5, representatives from the Australian Taxation Office will host a free workshop aimed at small business owners who seek to keep records in a way that will help them claim any deductions on offer. Goods and Service Tax will also be among topics covered at the June 5 workshop to be held at the Whitehorse Civic Centre.
