Work set to begin on new pavilion

Work is set to begin on the $6.2 million redevelopment project at Heatherdale Reserve Pavilion, near Box Hill South.

The project will see the existing sports pavilion, which the council has described as outdated, be demolished to make way for a new pavilion that will cater for ever-rising community needs.

According to Jenny Gorgorinis, Project Manager, a top range of facilities will be included in the new pavilion, ranging from a multi-purpose room and kitchen to amenities, multiple change rooms and a host of supporting facilities for use by the community and players.

Whitehorse City Council is providing $4m to make the project, jointly funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria ($200,000) and the Federal Government ($2m), a reality.

Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to make community members aware of major works programmes such as this, which involve public areas being fenced off during construction.

Gorgorinis said the adjacent car parking area will house the construction zone, but users of the park will have continuing access to the sports fields that are located outside.

The ground is home to the Heathmont Jets Junior Football Club and the Mitcham Eagles Junior Football Club - two of the largest junior football clubs in the Eastern Football League.

Further details on the redevelopment are available by contacting Gorgorinis at Whitehorse City Council. Work on the pavilion are expected to be completed by October next year.
