Work on new performing arts centre set to kick off

Box Hill South residents will be among many to benefit from the construction of a new performing arts facilities in the city's centre.

Mayor of Whitehorse Andrew Munroe said work on the new centre is set to begin soon, following an official turning of the sod and smoking ceremony by the land's Traditional Owners on the site in November.

Munroe said the ceremony not only paved the way for work to begin, but also represented reaching the pinnacle of over a decade of extensive planning, research and engaging with community members. He added:

“We are delighted that the design created by BKK Architects and Kerstin Thompson Architects has brought to life this vision for an accessible, flexible and contemporary venue for the whole community.”

The mayor said that once completed, the centre will fill multiple needs and will become a place where the community can unite to celebrate together, as well as to socialise, connect, develop and learn new skills, and be entertained.

Flyer printing campaigns often help to advertise events at major venues like performing arts centres.

Munroe added that it is anticipated the project will create some 320 jobs, as well as supporting local businesses by using their services and goods.

The mayor said the establishment of the new centre was exciting and would see many of the country's top performers and touring shows return to entertain the people of Whitehorse.
