Box Hill South residents will have the opportunity to view a vast array of extraordinary sculptures when the Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award exhibition opens in August.
The exhibition will feature sculptures from both the winner of the competition and the highly commended artist, as well as the finalists. The exhibition will showcase approximately 40 exceptional pieces of work. The winner’s sculpture will join other sculptures as part of the Deakin University Art Collection. The exhibition will run for approximately 7 weeks, after which time visitors will be given the opportunity to vote on a People’s Choice winner, who will receive a cash prize. The organisers of the competition may use brochure printing services to produce informative material for the visitors who come to view the exhibition.
The competition, which was established in 2009, is held annually and is open to artists from across the country. The winner of the 2022 award was Scotty So, who created a painted steel sculpture. Previous winners include Michael Le Grand, Kate Ellis and Hannah Toohey.
The Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award exhibition will be held at the Deakin University Art Gallery. The gallery is located at the Burwood campus of Deakin University, 221 Burwood Highway, Burwood. The gallery is open Monday to Friday, 11am – 5pm, and entry is free.
