Sustainability to be celebrated in Whitehorse

Residents and businesses from around Box Hill South are being encouraged to enter this year’s Sustainability Awards.

The awards are part of

the City of Whitehorse Council’s Sustainability Week, which helps locals learn more about living sustainable lifestyles and running eco-friendly businesses.

There are six categories in this year’s contest, for individuals, businesses, schools and pre-schools. Individuals can enter their gardens in the food section if they grow fruit, vegetables or herbs or the indigenous category if their section has numerous native plants.

Schools and pre-schools can showcase eco-initiatives at their centres while businesses can enter products or services that show sustainable practices. A community leadership award will be given to a not-for-profit group working for sustainable communities and one of the section winners will be named recipient of the Overall Whitehorse Sustainability Award.

Prizes include indigenous plants, a sustainable business coaching session, sustainable school grants and a permaculture consultation.

The winning business could also use their title on Stationery or on other promotional material such as Brochures showing how they work to care for the environment.

Nomination Forms can be downloaded from the City of Whitehorse Council website. Nominations close on Monday February 29th and the winners will be announced on Wednesday April 13th at a special event. Sustainable Living Week runs from Sunday April 10th to Sunday April 17th.
