Green-thumbed Box Hill South residents will have the opportunity to meet likeminded neighbours and make new connections within the community at the next “Whitehorse Urban Harvest @ Box Hill South” event.
The Urban Harvest is designed to assist people to make new gardening connections and enable them to share tips and recipes, while also helping to develop a thriving local society of gardeners producing food and sharing any excess crops grown.
Interested gardeners are invited to bring all things edible from their gardens – including fruit, herbs, seeds, cuttings, seedlings and, of course, vegetables. Interested parties who do not have produce could bring items such as worm juice, another composting liquid or recipes to share.
Throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions, garden centres across Melbourne have reported increased demand due to a gardening boom from people wanting to increase self-sufficiency and those worried about potential food shortages.
The Urban Harvest is aiming to encourage and promote this trend in the Whitehorse City Council area. Events like this are often promoted by the use of printed materials, including flyer and poster printing.
The Whitehorse Urban Harvest meets on the third Saturday of the month from 11am until 12.30pm at the Box Hill South Neighbourhood House, 47 Kitchener Street. For more information, see the official Urban Harvest Facebook page.
