Box Hill South residents have the chance to get rid of unwanted large items this week as the council’s annual Renew Collection takes place.
The collection is part of the City of Whitehorse’s bid to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Instead, households can leave their goods to be collected by the council to be reused elsewhere.
Last year more than 5,000 households took part and over 43,000 kilograms was picked up during the collection period.
This year, the Renew Collection runs until this Saturday. To take part, residents need to sort unwanted items into groups and leave them in plastic Bags, which will be distributed by the council. These Bags can then be left in a household recycling bin for collection the day after usual recycling in collected.
Goods which can be left out include clothes and other textiles such as bed linen, small electronic items, toys, sports equipment and household items.
Flyer printing may be used to provide more details about what can and cannot be put out. The council will also be distributing further information along with the collection Bags.
A drop off day for larger goods is also being held at the Whitehorse City Council Depot on Ailsa Street in Box Hill South on Saturday June 1st. Things that can be dropped off on this day include televisions, white goods and furniture. The depot will be open from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
For more information about the collection, visit the City of Whitehorse council website or phone the council.
