Public opinion invited on future upgrades at Elgar Park

Community input is being sought from residents of Box Hill South and surrounding areas for the proposed changes to Elgar Park.

Whitehorse Council asked

consultants Aspect Studios to put together a draft plan that focussed on the park’s current condition and suggest improvements to the reserve, which is an important open space within the city.

Councillor Helen Harris said that wide format printing had allowed a hard copy of the Elgar Park Draft Master Plan to be produced and put on display at Council customer service centres for easy access by interested residents who would like to have a say.

She said the development proposal for Elgar Park would be of great benefit to the future use of the location which is already home to many community groups and sporting bodies incorporating everything from hockey, cricket and football to the popular Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway.

Included in the current list of improvements on display is work on cyclist and pedestrian safety in the area of the Koonung Creek Trail along with construction of two pavilion buildings and general upgrades to the ovals that host a number of regular sporting fixtures.

Cr Harris said Copies of the Elgar Park Draft Master Plan can be viewed at the Nunawading, Forest Hill and Box Hill Customer Service Centres or on Council’s website with July 1 being the closing date for public submissions.
