Plenty to talk about at Readers and Writers Festival

Avid readers and writers will be pleasantly occupied in the coming weeks during the Whitehorse Manningham Libraries Readers’ and Writers’ Festival.

The festival starts on Thursday, October 25, with a talk by comedienne, writer, and activist Catherine Deveny at Nunawading Library.

As well as appearing on stage and writing a newspaper column, she is the author of several Books, the latest of which, ‘The Happiness Show’, is fresh from the printing company and due for release next month.

Box Hill South residents have two opportunities to hear speakers closer to home at Box Hill Library. On Saturday, October 27, comedy writer John Richards will discuss his journey to write a television show and get it onto television. Along with Adam Richard, John Richards wrote a pilot for a sitcom about a gay science-fiction fan club which went on to become the series ‘Outland’ on ABC1.

On Friday, November 2, former Chinese literature teacher Ada Yu Peng will talk about her new life in Australia, where she has had many odd jobs since she moved to the country in 1989 and has written a novel. This talk will be in Chinese only.

Other talks include travel writer Tim Richards discussing the way to write a good travel article and his recent travels, David Nichols, a lecturer in urban planning discussing popular culture and blogger turned book writer Amy Choi talking about her work and her family memoir.
