New programme seeks to help build digital workforce

Businesses in Box Hill South and across Victoria that require staff with digital skills are set to benefit from a new initiative launched by the State Government.

Digital skills and the demand for them in the workforce was the focus of a roundtable meeting of industry representatives recently, which was led by Mount Waverley Member Matt Fregon in preparation for the introduction of the Digital Skills and Jobs programme.

The programme has been devised as a cost-effective way to develop digital skills and build capability in the digital arena within the many businesses in Victoria that require this input, while also driving job growth and economic recovery.

The findings of the meeting will assist in shaping the delivery and design of the programme to make sure it provides benefits in the long and short term for businesses.

Digital Economy, Medical Research and Innovation Minister Jaala Pulford said through industry placements and short courses, the initiative will give workers the experience and skills to move into a career requiring digital talents. She added:

“The Digital Skills and Jobs programme will be a game changer for Victoria and will significantly grow our digital workforce.”

The addition of digital skills to Business Cards can significantly increase the job opportunities for those seeking work or wishing to change professions.

Round one of applications for the new programme will open at the end of April. Successful candidates will begin training mid-year.
