What's Happening in Box Hill South, VIC…

New community hub nears completion

Box Hill South residents will be among many throughout the City of Whitehorse to benefit from the establishment of a vibrant and new community hub which recently reached lock-up stage.

The centre is to be built on the site formerly home to the Nunawading Primary School on Springvale Road, the Nunawading Community Hub will be home to the council-run Meals on Wheels and other community groups.

Mayor Sharon Ellis explained that creating an area where the spirit of the community can flourish and an environment that fosters friendships was the ultimate goal, adding:

“With construction expected to be completed by mid-2020, it’s not long before the community will be able to participate in a diverse range of artistic, dance, sporting and leisure pursuits on offer by the community groups operating out of the hub.”

Many organisations within the hub will be instantly recognisable by their logo design, including Meals on Wheels, which will prepare about 1,200 meals for distribution by volunteers to some 300 residents. To help foster friendships and social interactions, recipients of Meals on Wheels will also be provided with communal dining opportunities in a designated section of the hub.

Features of the development range from the heritage school building refurbishment to specially-fitted out areas for lapidary activities, counselling, art and dance.

Multi-functional meeting rooms and classrooms, plus a multi-purpose sports stadium and a communal kitchen complete with a teaching area are also a part of the new hub.
