New arts and events venue named

A new performing arts venue that is set to provide a vast range of cultural and arts opportunities for people living in Box Hill South and across the Whitehorse community, has been named The Round.

Mayor of Whitehorse Tina Liu said the redevelopment project will bring with it a welcoming, intimate and inclusive space within a contemporary, curved architecture. It will enjoy a setting in parkland and will be a spectacle for all park users while also providing them with a top outlook. She added:

“The new contemporary performing arts venue will build upon the legacy of the former Whitehorse Centre. Bringing what the community loved and valued into a new era."

In addition to an auditorium to seat upward of 600, The Round precinct will also host a studio theatre seating 200, improved soundshell, rehearsal studios and better car parking, while the new facilities will also pave the way for an expanded array of events, functions and shows.

Brochure printing campaigns have often helped spread the word about events happening within the Whitehorse community.

According to the Mayor, the new name is considered appropriate, inclusive and flexible and aligns with the council's overall brand strategy, which has been laid down to provide an aligned, cohesive approach with not only the logo, visual branding and name, but also business development and programming.

Completion, followed by the opening of The Round, is expected in late 2023.
