Melbourne to host major skills championship

TAFE students from Box Hill South and across the state will have a chance to showcase their talent and skills in the WorldSkills Australia National Championships, which are to be held in Melbourne next year.

According to Skills and Training Minister Gayle Tierney, regional competitions for the national championships will begin throughout Victoria soon.

WorldSkills is the country's largest skills and trades competition and provides hundreds of students, trainees and apprentices an opportunity to show what they can do across a wide selection of disciplines, including health services, cyber security, hairdressing and carpentry.

Tierney said world-class workers were being discovered through Victorian's training and the TAFE system, and the competition afforded them a chance to shine in Australia and on a world stage. She welcomed the chance to host the national championships and added:

“Victoria is the skills and training capital – so it’s no surprise that we will be hosting the next WorldSkills Australia National Championships, celebrating apprentices, trainees and students from Victoria and across the nation.”

Flyer printing campaigns have often assisted in spreading the word about major competitions available to students and trainees.

Held biannually in Australia since 1982, the national championships in Victoria will reveal winners from across the country who will then represent Australia as part of the Skillaroos team in France at the 2024 WorldSkills competition. Further information is available on the WorldSkills website.
