Melbourne International Arts Festival

The Melbourne International Arts Festival will take place from October 6-22 at a variety of venues. The festival has become a “key destination festival” for the area. It features theatre, dance, music, opera, visual art and film. Those who work in the printing services in nearby Box Hill South will most likely be interested in several of the photography exhibits that will be featured as a way to see what is current in the art.

The festival will feature free and ticketed events. Some of the Melbourne venues that will be taking part in the festival are the Arts Centre, Malhouse Centre, Melbourne Recital Centre, Fortyfivedownstairs and The Toff in Town. Tickets to the various venues can be purchased at each venue, by telephone, by website, by fax and by mail.

There will be several visual art events taking place during the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Two of the exhibits that will be presented are:

A Different Temporality: Aspects of Australian Art Practice 1975-1985 - This exhibit is curated by Dr. Kyla McFarlane and features performance art, film and photography. This is a free event, which will be presented at the Monash University Museum of Art.

In Camera and in Public (International) - This exhibit is curated by Naomi Cass and features a

“look at society through the lens of the State.”

This includes street photography of people who didn’t realize they were being photographed and official surveillance photographs. This is a free event which will take place at CCP, Gallery 1.
