Maternal health services offered via video call

Parents and carers in Box Hill South and surrounding suburbs will be pleased to know that the Whitehorse City Council is making it possible for them to access maternal and child health services during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Families with newborn children up to the age of 8 weeks are still required to attend face-to-face appointments for physical check-ups by the Maternal Child Health Nurse, however, consultations for older children are now available via video or telephone call.

This service enables parents and caregivers to safely communicate with a Maternal Child Health Nurse regarding their child’s progress and development without leaving their home.

One of the benefits of the video call service is the ability for both parents to be present during the appointment, strengthening family and health service relationships whilst giving the Maternal Child Health Nurse an opportunity to see the child via video in their own environment.

Other services being offered during this time include new parent groups held via Zoom, while home visits are being restricted to extremely vulnerable families during this time. Consultations are by appointment only and parents can book their session by calling their closest centre directly. Health services may make use of printing services to create appointment cards or medical information to be distributed to patients.

Further information regarding Maternal Health and Child Centres in the Whitehorse City area may be found on the Whitehorse City Council website.
