Box Hill South residents can learn more about the area’s history as the City of Whitehorse celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
The annual Heritage Week takes place next month, and will mark 20 years since the cities of Box Hill and Nunawading were merged to form the City of Whitehorse.
Events include a tour of the Box Hill Town Hall, a walk around a local cemetery and a talk on the role of the city’s mayor.
Film fans can enjoy a matinee screening of Australian favourite Muriel’s Wedding, while family history buffs can learn more with free information sessions on how to research genealogy.
As part of the celebration, residents were encouraged to take photographs of something they loved about the city and upload it to a special Instagram page. The finalists will be on show at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre from Tuesday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 21st.
Residents can vote for their favourite image on the centre’s Facebook page until the end of August, with the winner receiving $300. The winning photos may also be used by the council in promotional material such as poster printing, so the photographers stand a chance of their image being seen across Whitehorse.
Heritage Week runs from Thursday, September 11th to Thursday, September 18th. Bookings can be made through the City Council.
