History of health to feature during Heritage Week

Box Hill South residents will be among many from the City of Whitehorse to have an opportunity to explore the City’s past history in health as part of Heritage Week 2019.

This year’s event will explore the sickness, pills, health and potions that have been experienced during the City’s growth and development.

According to Councillor Raylene Carr, many secrets will be uncovered throughout the five-day event as it puts a focus on contemporary successes, health epidemics, photographic archives, medicine bottles and hospitals and, she added:

“The programme is full of free or low-cost events, with something for all ages. Try out yoga, learn about the amazing Royal District Nursing Service, get stuck into a health-related trivia night and take a bus tour to a former World War 1 rehabilitation hospital.”

Poster printing has often helped to identify participating venues in events across the city. For this event, venues include the Schwerkolt Cottage and Museum Complex where a free ‘Potions and Pills’ display featuring everything from medication containers to medical instruments will be on show until November 30.

Also being organised as part of Heritage Week, which officially runs from September 12 to 19, will be activities such as the Healthy Appetites Cooking Demonstration at the Community Arts Centre in Box Hill from 10:30am to 12:30pm on September 18.
