Garage Sale Trail leads to Whitehorse

Box Hill South residents are being invited to take part in this year’s Garage Sale Trail.

Mayor of Whitehorse Bill Bennett said the annual event, provides an opportunity to recycle, reuse and think thrifty, while also uncovering many unwanted treasures. He said it is also a chance to focus on the environment and lower the degree of waste that is ending up in landfill by finding other uses or reusing items already in people’s possession. Delighted to be involved in the Garage Sale Trail once again, the Mayor said:

“Now in its ninth year, this is one of Australia’s biggest community and sustainability events; one gigantic weekend of waste-reducing, planet-saving and treasure hunting.”

Those with second-hand goods suitable for repurposing but just currently sitting in closets or garages are being urged to register for the nation-wide event, which is to be held on the weekend of October 19 and 20. The event is advertised extensively via flyer printing, the media, and council websites throughout the country.

In excess of 400,000 Australians from local businesses, community groups, schools and households annually put goods up for sale during the trail.

Meanwhile, shoppers can benefit from a smorgasbord of unique, colourful and useful items that are often going out at bargain prices and both buyers and sellers will be doing their part to aid the environment.
