Christmas is coming, and businesses in Whitehorse are being encouraged to get into the festive spirit.
The annual City of Whitehorse festive window display competition opens this month, with prizes awarded to the top three entries.
Whitehorse’s Mayor, Councillor Sharon Ellis, said the competition was a good way of encouraging Christmas spirit and attracting customers. While businesses should always want their window displays to look good, she said that December is a particularly good time to be a bit more creative.
The top prize includes radio advertising and business mentoring. Second prize includes mentoring and a new laptop computer, while the third prize winners will receive a discounted meal at the Box Hill Golf Club for all staff members. Each business also receives membership of the Whitehorse Business Group.
With such great prizes on offer, shop owners in Box Hill South might like to think about using a professional Print company to create a backdrop for the display. This should help the window to stand out from the competition.
A local trader or member of the public must nominate a window for entry into the competition, but businesses are allowed to nominate themselves. Displays must be visible from the street or inside a shopping centre.
A panel of judges will look at all nominated windows and will base their decisions on criteria including colour, design, and creativity.
The contest opens on Monday and ends on Tuesday December 10. For more information, or to nominate a display, visit the Whitehorse Council Business and Economic Development Unit’s website.
