Box Hill’s Artspace will present ‘Be Persuaded – Jane Austen’ which will not only display original fashion items from the period in the 18th Century when the author was born but also up until the 1840s.
English novelist Jane Austen earned wide acclaim for her Books ‘Sense and Sensibility’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Mansfield Park’, ‘Emma’, ‘Northanger Abbey’ and ‘Persuasion’.
According to Councillor Raylene Carr, the free exhibition of costumes brings together a wonderful mix of history, art, fashion, and Jane Austen and added:
“This really brings Jane Austen to life and the rare, original items on display show off intricate hand worked fashions, from dresses and underclothes to bonnets and shoes. The famous Regency era fashions take us back to the time in which Austen wrote her much-loved novels such as Persuasion, Emma and Pride and Prejudice.”
A part of Dressing Australia – Museum of Costume’s touring exhibitions, this will showcase delicate empire line frocks, parasols, bonnets, spencers, pumps and stockings, boots, shawls and capes. Fashion between the 1790s and 1830s will also be on display in the form of 27 watercolours, all hand-painted.
Exhibitions such as this are often advertised via poster printing. The Artspace will host Be Persuaded-Jane Austen from June 20 to July 27.Get a Free Quote for Books
