Cricket Victoria rewards job well done

Cricketers in Box Hill South and across the Whitehorse City Council area have top scored in the eyes of Cricket Victoria.

The statewide organisation recently made a presentation of a framed photo to the council as a thank you for the support it has shown to cricket during the past season.

The photo was accepted by Mayor of Whitehorse Andrew Munroe, who said the honour was extended on behalf of the local Box Hill Cricket Club, which was grateful for council’s ongoing support of men’s and women’s cricket.

Box Hill player Anna Lanning, who is also a squad member of the Australian Southern Stars, is featured in the framed photo along with a message reading:

“Thank you Whitehorse City Council for your support of premier cricket during the 2014/2015 season.”

Cr. Munroe said he was proud of the many great facilities and grounds available to cricketers throughout the city. These included Surrey Park Oval, Mont Albert Reserve and Box Hill City Oval.

Council and the various clubs have engaged in flyer printing during the past few years to help bring in new members each year, and the mayor said turf wickets on each of the main cricket grounds were prepared for play on a weekly basis.

Major fixtures this year included the Men’s Grand Finals of the Eastern Cricket Association, which were held at both Surrey Park Oval and Mont Albert Reserve.
