Classic theatre coming to Whitehorse

Theatre lovers in Box Hill South can enjoy a wide range of shows this month with several productions taking place across the City of Whitehorse.

First on the bill is popular musical Evita, which is being staged at the Whitehorse Centre in nearby Nunawading. The show, which tells the story of Eva Peron – the much-loved wife of an Argentinian president – is being presented by Nova Music Theatre, a local amateur theatre group and runs until Saturday, May 23rd.

Later this month, the Whitehorse Centre will play host to a new production of The King and I with its well-known songs including Shall We Dance. The show will be performed by members of the Babirra Music Theatre – an amateur group that specialises in older shows. The King and I runs from Friday, May 29th until Sunday, June 7th.

Closer to home, the Surrey Music Café based at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre will present Silverbeat on Friday, May 29th. The show features five talented musicians, including Melbourne pianist Jeremy Woolhouse, playing a variety of instruments to treat the audience to an evening of jazz.

Theatre goers should look out for poster printing advertising the various shows, with details of tickets and performance times. Tickets can be booked directly with the venues and more information can be found on the City of Whitehorse council website.
