City of Whitehorse to be celebrated in pictures

Keen photographers from Whitehorse are being invited to share their views of the area in a new competition.

The contest, called Capture Whitehorse, is designed for people to use their tablets or smart phones to take pictures around the city on one particular day.

It is being run as part of the council’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of the amalgamation of Nunawading and Box Hill to form the Whitehorse.

Photographs should then be uploaded to social sharing site Instagram with a special hashtag. Residents in Box Hill South are encouraged to try to capture the essence of their local area and show what it means to them.

Although the competition is being run online, printing services will be used to Print Copies of the finalists’ photos, which will be displayed in an exhibition at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre in September.

The winner, judged by a panel on relevance to the theme, originality, and artistic interpretation, will receive $1,000. The most popular photo with the public will win $300, and there is a special $1,000 prize for schools.

The competition takes place on Wednesday, July 16th and pictures should be taken and uploaded before midnight. Finalists will be announced at the end of July.
