The Chinese New Year is a time for celebration and Box Hill is home to one of Melbourne’s largest events to mark the occasion.
The event will take place tomorrow (Saturday 9th) around Box Hill Mall and will also cover Whitehorse Road, so Box Hill South residents will not have to travel far to enjoy the festivities. The festival is organised by the Asian Business Association of Whitehorse and will showcase the best of Chinese culture.
It includes the Parade of Choi Sun, the Chinese God of Fortune, with traditional dragon and lion dances along the streets. Other highlights from the event include a display of firecrackers, dancers, demonstrations of martial arts and amusements. The Victoria Police Band will be providing music and visitors can see a huge Buddha statue.
This year is the Year of the Snake and a large serpent, which has been created by children from local schools with the help of the Association and the Box Hill Community Arts Centre, will be on show inside Centro Box Hill. There will also be several stalls selling souvenirs and Asian cultural items.
With vibrant colours and plenty of things to see, the event is sure to make great photographs and a professional printing company can help create high quality prints to show off the best shots.
The event runs from 3:00 pm to 3:00 am. With around 70,000 people expected at the festival and limited parking, people are encouraged to use public transport rather than drive. For more information about the event, visit the City of Whitehorse council website.
