Chance for bands to shine in Whitehorse

Budding musicians are being invited to showcase their talent at the Whitehorse Music Competition.

The competition is part of the annual FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands which sees musicians from around Victoria compete for a grand prize.

The contest is open to groups, duos and soloists aged between 12 and 24 years old who live, work or study in the City of Whitehorse and performers are encouraged to use their own original material rather than cover versions.

The live competition will be held on Friday August 21, at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre and will be open to an audience of all ages. Fans from Box Hill South could use banner printing to show their support for their favourite acts in the contest or to encourage family and friends taking part.

The winners will go on to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional final later this year and compete for a place in the grand final to be held at the Melbourne Moomba Festival in March 2016.

The overall winners receive a prize pack featuring equipment including drumsticks and guitar strings, a recording session and a promotional campaign.

Entries must be submitted by Friday July 24 and applications can be found on the Youth Services section of the Whitehorse City Council website. Tickets for the concert are $5 and the concert is smoke, drug and alcohol free.
