Like many Australian cities, Melbourne is having a Christmas Festival which will be running from December 2-January 3, 2012. The festival will feature lots of free family-friendly activities for everyone.
The Christmas Festival kicks off on December 2 with the unveiling of the Christmas tree and decorations at City Square from 7-9:30 pm. Local printing companies will have been busy preparing decorations such as Banners and Posters. Santa will be there and there will be carolling. The square will be turned into a Christmas forest, with a maze, an interactive storybook and Santa’s house. Children from all over the area, including the suburb of Box Hill South will be hoping their parent’s take them down to the square before Christmas.
On December 8 from 10:30-11:30 am, the nativity scene in the City Square will be blessed and the Australian Girls’ Choir will perform Christmas carols. Spirit of the Square takes place in Federation Square from December 1-12. There will be an installation of 150 Christmas trees called The Pines. This area will feature mazes, music, hide & seek games and other interactive activities.
Other Christmas events taking place in December, including a dramatic reading of A Christmas Carol at the Anthenaeum Theatre from December 8-11. A live Christmas Show at the Forum Theatre from December 13-17 which will feature Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will also be an Icehouse Christmas showcase, the Bonanza Christmas cruise and the Blender Christmas Party in which 18 artists will showcase their work.
