Box Hill South residents to enjoy cultural event

An upcoming festival focused on Japan is set to take place in Box Hill this autumn.

Box Hill Town Hall will once again host the Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival for 2024. A celebration of all things Japanese, the upcoming event invites residents from Box Hills South and other parts of the suburb to immerse themselves in a rich cultural experience.

The May festival promises attendees a taste of authentic Japanese cuisine as well as arts, goods and stage performances honouring the “Land of the Rising Sun”. This year, there will also be a special cosplay and kimono competition, and a raffle with big prizes to be won.

Event organisers holding contests as part of their festivities sometimes enlist experienced Print shops to design and supply certificates, trophies, plaques, and other products to award to winners.

Local song and dance ensembles are a regular feature of the festival, along with traditional Okinawan folk tunes and Taiko drumming. However, contemporary music and dance is also incorporated.

Japanese beer will be on sale from stalls on the day to accompany popular snacks like yakitori and Takoyaki.

The Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival 2024 will take place at Box Hill Town Hall on Sunday, May 19. The event will start at 9:00 am and the local civic building can be found at 1022 Whitehorse Road in Box Hill.
