Box Hill South area to host French celebrations

A renowned site in Melbourne will honour the National Day of France this winter.

Francophiles from Box Hill South and other Melbourne suburbs can celebrate in style this year with an epic event planned for July. The state capital’s acclaimed Queen Victoria Market has announced that it will be hosting a two-day celebration entitled the “Bastille Day French Festival”.

Bastille Day is well-known as the popular name for the National Day of France in English-speaking countries and each year it is celebrated on July 14. In French, its formally referred to as the “Fête nationale française”, but its legal name is simply “le 14 juillet”.

Organisers of national events often enlist the aid of banner printing services to produce decorations featuring a country’s colours like the blue, white, and red of the French flag, the “tricolour”.

A family friendly occasion, the event will take festivalgoers on a French voyage. Over the weekend, the market will be well-attended by French-Australian enterprises from the area, performers and artists, French cuisine (Including freshly baked breakfast croissants) and a cultural programme featuring walking tours, Les Lumières talks and masterclasses in the centre of the city.

The Bastille Day French Festival will be at Queen Victoria market on Saturday July 12 and Sunday, July 14. The market is situated at Queen Street in Melbourne.
