Aussie rules partnership extends to 2026

Aussie rules enthusiasts in Box Hill South and across the City of Whitehorse are being urged to take up memberships in the Hawthorn Football Club, following the extension of its alignment with Box Hill Hawks.

The Box Hill Hawks and Hawthorn Club have extended their partnership for a further five years until 2026, making history as the AFL-VFL alignment that has been running for the longest.

The agreement will see Hawthorn Club's VFLW licence returned to Box Hill, while the Hawks set their sights on becoming part of the AFLW competition late in 2022 in Season 7.

As a result of the partnership, which will see the VFLW licence absorbed by Box Hill, each club will become stronger through their running of elite programmes focused on football for female and male athletes.

In addition, the clubs will work jointly to set up the Hawks Academy Pathway Program. This initiative will manage the enrolment of father-daughter, father-son and Next Generation Academy talents, as well as other promising talents hailing from the clubs' Eastern corridor recruiting regions.

In a statement, Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves explained that he is proud of the enduring relationship the two clubs share, adding:

“We have no doubt the relationship between Hawthorn and Box Hill played a significant part in Hawthorn’s Premiership success since 2008, and it will continue to have a substantial impact over the next five years.”
