Annual Midsumma Festival kicks off

The yearly Midsumma Festival in Melbourne kickstarted on Sunday 22nd January, with over 120,000 attendees from Box Hill South and other regions of Melbourne turning up to enjoy showcases and performances at Alexandra Gardens.

The event kicked off the 35th anniversary of LGBTI festival which will consist of three weeks of the best queer performances, art and showcases across Melbourne and the rest of Victoria.

Alexandra Gardens was full of music and unique stalls, as well as the opportunity to compete in games such as limbo and tug of war in the Queerlympics.

Mama Crass, drag queen and fashionista, said that the event gives the people of Melbourne the opportunity to enjoy the things that make them unique:

"What I love about this day is that it’s about acceptance – we can come out and we can band together over our differences."

For the three weeks of Midsumma, more than 200 events will be happening across the region right up to the Pride March in February. The final night on February 12th will see a mass street party, full of performances from Banoffee, Chela and Casey Donovan.

The Midsumma program is supported by the State Government and large events such as these that span several weeks can often rely on promotional materials from printing services in order for them to reach a wider audience and get as many people involved as possible.
