Slacks Creek Queensland residents will join other Logan City music enthusiasts to enjoy a special performance by the Logan Youth Music Exchange (LYME) Stage Band in July.
The concert will be held as a prelude to the band’s tour of China, where they will represent local youth as part of the area’s Sister City relationship with Xuhui and Suzhou in the Shanghai region.
In Logan, the talented young musicians will present a mixture of rock and funk, together with some great jazz classics.
The versatile band’s overseas itinerary includes performances with a symphony orchestra and a string orchestra.
LYME have toured in Taiwan and China many times, including six visits to Hirakata Japan, which first cemented its Sister City bond with Logan City in 1995.
Hirakata borders the Ikoma mountain range and the Yodogawa River, and is a high-density suburb set between Osaka City and Kyoto. It is a popular tourist destination.
Local attractions include the Chrysanthemum Doll festival and a traditional inn, which provided accommodation for travellers from as early as the 16th century.
The Sister City arrangement was developed as part of the city government’s initiative to develop and pro-actively support international relations, including exchanges of students and citizens.
Postcard printing and Brochures of performances while in China are popular keepsakes for members of the band who participate in the annual tour.
