Top author to hold story time for youngsters

Slacks Creek children are being given an opportunity to experience story time with one of Australia’s most loved children’s authors.

Mem Fox is the author of ‘Possum Magic’, which has sold almost five million Copies around the world and has put the author at the top of Australia’s bestselling children’s book list.

Library Catalogues across the nation today carry many of her 40 Books written especially for children including ‘Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes’, ‘Where Is The Green Sheep?’ and ‘Time for Bed’. She also wrote a book aimed especially at parents called ‘Reading Magic’.

Mayor Luke Smith said the South Australian author’s visit was organised as part of a joint venture between Council’s libraries and Logan Together, and early childhood educators, carers and parents were all welcome to attend.

He said the free event, ‘An Evening with Mem Fox’, was being held to celebrate ‘Under 8s Week’, which is held annually.

According to Matthew Cox, director of Logan Together, the story time sessions would highlight storytelling and the power of Books as a way for mums and dads to connect with their young children and inspire young minds. He added that reading was an effective and important way for them to develop literacy and language skills.

The Logan Entertainment Centre will host the event on May 25, with sessions starting at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm respectively.
