Slacks Creek Soccer Club is among a number of sporting bodies in the City of Logan to receive a share of state government funding totalling $160,000.
The Queensland club will receive $7,350 towards its efforts to provide coaching accreditation and support football in the area.
In total, 26 sports clubs throughout the City of Logan shared in the latest ‘Get Going–Clubs’ funding allocation.
Councillor Russell Lutton, who chairs the Logan City Council’s Sport and Community Committee welcomed the funding, which he said would help local sporting groups strengthen their ability to attract new members and grow its standing within the community.
According to Cr. Lutton, many local clubs relied on club fundraising events and the distribution of Flyers seeking support from households within the local area to help fund ongoing activities. He added volunteers, coaches and administrators were also an important factor keeping the clubs operating throughout the year.
He said the wide range of sporting bodies in Logan attracted great interest and a high participation rate, which he believed contributed to the latest funding allocation.
Lutton believed a strong growth phase was currently being experienced for sports across the city, and said applying for federal and state grants such as the Get Going-Clubs funding would enable many more clubs to prosper and grow in the future.
