Queensland-born pop star finds new calling in comedy

Darren Hayes, former lead singer of Australian boy band Savage Garden, has launched a comedic podcast discussing new movie releases. The podcast is being

made in collaboration with the Groundlings, an acting school and improvisation company based in Los Angeles.

Hayes moved from Australia to San Francisco in 1999 and to London in 2004 before travelling to Los Angeles to begin studying at the acting school in 2013, where in addition to the podcast he has participated in a series of comedy sketches published on YouTube. June 19th this year marks the 10-year anniversary of his civil partnership with director, animator and graphic design professional Richard Cullen, who designed the cover for Hayes' 2005 single So Beautiful. Graphic design is important to so many areas of business and life.

The singer remains a household name in Australia despite having spent the past 17 years of his life away from his country of birth. He was raised in Logan City just southwest of Brisbane and attended Mabel Park State High School in Slacks Creek, and his name is featured on the Logan City Council's Wall of Acclaim for notable residents.

Hayes has made four solo albums since Savage Garden broke up in 2001, most recently Secret Codes and Battleships in 2011. He has reassured fans that he maintains his passion for music and has been studying comedy and performance art to help achieve his longstanding goal of writing a stage musical.
