Nominations called for city's top achieving selfless youth

Residents from Slacks Creek and throughout the City of Logan are being invited to submit nominations for the 2021 Young Citizen of the Year.

Last year's winner Gabrielle Crotty was nominated by Linda Carroll, a high school teacher who put the young ambassador forward for her passion and dedication to charity work, in particular with the St Vincent de Paul organisation, in addition to her efforts to help local youth by organising a campaign for anti-bullying.

Crotty was quick to applaud the accolade and recommended others take the opportunity to nominate for the role for next year's Australia Day Awards in Logan City.

Nominees are required to be under 27 and be a person whose contribution to the local community has been outstanding.

To be presented on Australia Day 2021, the award aims at recognising and encouraging Logan youth who selflessly contribute to the community, according to Mayor Darren Power, who added:

“There are so many community-minded young people in Logan who go above and beyond for others, often while also trying to kick-start dreams of their own.”

Many community-minded youth have helped initiate flyer printing campaigns and fundraising events to help local charitable organisations.

Mayor Power said the awards provide an ideal way to make young people feel supported and valued for their efforts and contribution to the community. Australia Day Awards nominations must be submitted by December 7.
