Queensland’s Logan City is gearing up to host a major musical event that is set to showcase local talent under the guiding hand of Australian jazz star James Morrison.
A two-year partnership has been signed between Logan City Council and Queensland Music Festival (QMF), of which Morrison is artistic director, to stage `Logan’s Musical Celebration’ in 2015.
The initiative was a direct result of the Logan: City of Choice Summit Action Plan, which advocated the introduction of a signature event in which the community could be actively involved.
According to Pam Parker, the city mayor, the festival will provide an opportunity for locals from all suburbs, including Slacks Creek, to enjoy and share cultural diversity as well as to give talented people within the community a chance to take part.
She said teaming with the QMF was an added bonus, as it ensured the event was in experienced hands from the outset and paved the way for it to be a grand musical production like no other previously held in the city.
Parker said work on the festival would begin soon and each of the event’s aspects would involve local people, including production, planning, talent and attendance.
Popular personality James Morrison – who most people only see on television and stage performances, or as a `coming event’ publicised through poster printing – is reportedly looking forward to working with locals on the project.
