Impressive new facility for Slacks Creek

Christmas offered a bonus for fitness buffs, with the new $14 million Cronulla Indoor Sports Centre opening.

Situated on Compton Road and Kingston Road in Slacks Creek, the centre has a range of sporting and fitness facilities. The sports centre will also provide youth and indigenous programmes, along with an after-school care service. The after-school service can cater for up to 100 children and has a large outdoor play area.

The centre features specialised facilities such as the gymnastics training area. Construction of the gymnastics area is to regional standards, which the centre management believes will make it attractive to professional gymnasts and potential Olympians as a training venue. There is a 24-hour gym and a multipurpose space with a sprung floor. Busy community sporting venues find that poster printing is an essential communication tool for notice boards.

A council spokesperson said that the project formed part of the Logan City Council’s Active Logan Strategy to encourage an active lifestyle for residents. Logan City has several quality sporting facilities, including Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre and the re-developed Logan North Aquatic Centre. The federal government contributed $6.6 million to the $14 million cost of the centre. The balance of the funding came from Logan City Council.

The centre will house the local Logan Police Citizens Youth Club, and PCYC Queensland will operate the centre.
