Funding boost helps Logan clubs hit membership goals

Logan Hockey Club and Meakin Park Junior Sporting Association in Slacks Creek, Queensland will benefit from the latest round of State Government funding for sport and recreation.

The clubs are among 11 within the Logan Council area to share in funding of almost $1 million, made available from the Get Playing Spaces and Places initiative.

Cr Steve Swenson, Sport and Community Services Chairperson, said the initiative will be used to fund a number of projects ranging from new irrigation and lighting systems to building works and field improvements.

He said the Logan Hockey Club will also be among a further 24 recreation and sporting clubs to share in $165,000 of funding by the State Government, as part of the Get Going Clubs programme which assists clubs to grow by purchasing new equipment, training volunteers and attracting new participants.

Cr Swenson said the funding enabled clubs to move forward with printing services and other initiatives that helped attract interest from new members.

The councillor saw the additional funding as an extension to the financial support already contributed by Council’s Logan Sports Development Programme.

He applauded local clubs and said they played an important role in bringing community members together and in supporting active and healthy lifestyles.

Cr Swenson added that clubs were attracting a greater participation rate in line with the city’s rising population which made funding programmes such as the latest State Government initiative increasingly important.
