City seeks urban design award nominations

Nominations for the Logan Urban Design Awards, which extends across the City of Logan, including Slacks Creek, are now open.

Held biennially, the awards are held to recognise creative design ventures, including events, businesses and projects, which have improved or enriched Logan City and were completed from 2017 onwards.

The awards invite nominations in four categories – Programmes and Events, Architecture and Business, Landscape Architecture and Urban Infrastructure and Master Planning.

At the last awards in 2018, the overall winner was Yarrabilba's The Retreat estate, of which recreational Buxton Park is a major feature. It caught the eye and votes of the judges due to the fact that it created places that are both prosperous and enjoyable. The judges added:

“This project is recognised for connectivity to the residential catchment, accessibility to and through the open space . . . [and] a high standard of master-planning, design, construction and community development.”

The Retreat also boasts nine hectares of landscaped parkland and bushland, together with cycling and walking paths, wetland boardwalks, a lagoon and nature trails. Features such as this are often highlighted by graphic design mock-ups of the development created as part of the sales process.

Sole business operators and major developers alike can enter the awards, for which nominations close on September 13. Winners will be announced in the Our Logan magazine in December.
